SPEND ONLY FIVE MINUTES FILLING OUT
THIS FREE TIME AUDIT
It really only takes 5 minutes of your time to jot down how you are spending your day.
Keep it in your planner or I like to keep it on a clipboard right next to me when I am working.
It's part of the same planner pack I use for my own design business Maureenmaker.com
where I design Surface Patterns for fabric and childrenās products.
MAKES USE OF THE TIME YOU HAVE
Why can some people get so much done?
Despite your best efforts, you keep shifting your to do list.
You probably think you need more time, but the answer will surprise you.
You just need to make better use the the time you have.
I know this is easier said than done, but I have a simple 5 minute method that will help you (it worked for me).
FIVE EASY STEPS TO TAKE BACK YOUR DAY
Step1: Print out my free time audit planner page (it is part of a free 30 pack set,
but I don't want to overwhelm you right now, so just print out the time audit page from my Vault, baby steps:)
Step 2: Decide only 3 things that you will accomplish today.
Be realistic. Why only 3 you ask? Productivity guru Chris Bailey wrote a very good article on this concept you can read here.
He says, "having just three items to focus on throughout the day and week will help you stay
centered and accomplish more, even on days when everything hits the fan."
Step 3: Decide what is for dinner.
Very Important, otherwise you will waste lots of time searching the internet for recipes later, trust me:)
Step 4: Start to track your day in 30 or 60 minute increments.
Write down everything, phone calls with mom, lunch break, took dog out, answered emails, checked instagram, etc.
(Be honest, no one has to see this but you, we won't judge you even if you find you spend 30 minutes looking at cat videos š¤£š±
Step 5: Analyze your results and see what you can modify to make better use of your time.
Maybe you are unaware of how long certain tasks are taking.
You may find stopping to make lunch every day is taking too long and you may
be better off just packaging up leftovers the night before to have for lunch.
If you are a WAHM like me, try not to be too available.
Set office hours so your family and friends know when you are working.
Small adjustments have have a big impact over the course of a day or a week.
Print me out and pin up in your workspace, for positive
motivation and a gentle reminder from me.
TIME TO IMPLEMENT SOME CHANGES
Now that you see where you can improve, enlist some help.
Let your family know you are trying to be more productive.
Delegate chores or ask for volunteers.
This worked well for me. Instead of telling my kids that I wanted them to empty the dishwasher
or cook dinner, etc., I printed out a list of all of the chores I needed help with
and let them pick which ones they wanted to do.
Very simple and they felt in charge instead of me nagging them.
THE POWER OF Positive PEOPLE
Surround yourself with positive people, if you donāt have any in your life, get some!
Positive people are contagious, they are your cheerleaders and they seem to get sh** done!
They donāt sweat the small stuff. (Btw, I am a very positive person, so join my email list and
now you have one very positive person cheering you on;)
Find some online groups where you can interact with like-minded individuals.
There are so many great Facebook groups you can join.
Be inspired by others but resist the urge to compare yourself to them,
this will have negative effects in the long run and zap your productivity, so nip it in the bud.
PLAN Happiness WITH YOUR NEW FOUND TIME
Yes, you heard that right, you can plan to be happy!
Make time to do things that make you happy.
Happy people are productive people (whistle while you workā¦)
They jump out of bed in the morning and canāt wait to start their day.
Make your happiness a priority and watch your productivity soar!
Can you do me a solid and pin this image ?šš»It helps others to find it easily. Thanks so much!
MULTI-TASKING IS Over-rated
Prioritize, focus and disconnect from everything in order to get important work done.
I can spend less time getting my task checked off when I am not constantly
checking my email, social media, answering calls, etc.
Put your phone in another room! You canāt be trusted!
Multi-tasking is over rated. (Unless you have 3 kids and you are shopping with them:) Then it is absolutely necessary!)
I canāt wait to see how much time you gain by trying my time audit.
Let me know what tips you use to keep moving forward towards your goals.
