BLOSSOM AND GROW FABRIC BLOG HOP:
The Maker’s Tote Sewing Project
June 28,2022
Hello everyone and welcome to day 9 of the Blossom and Grow Fabric Blog Hop!
Today Deb from @sproutingjubejube is taking over my blog. Take it away Deb…
HELLO FRIENDS!
Hi! My name is Debbie, my friends also call me Deb. I'm a mother of 4, fabric and pattern hoarder and I just really enjoy being creative.
After already creating a few projects from Maureen's Blossom & Grow fabric, I just wanted to use more of it and so I knew I wanted to be a part of this blog hop
MY PROJECT
My project is a the Maker's Tote by Noodlehead.
From the moment I saw the pattern I knew I was going to use the Orange Peel print as the main part of the bag.
You know that moment you see it all come together in your head, well that's exactly how it happened.
FABRIC CHOICES
I chose one of the pretty square panels from the 24 inch panel in this collection, to make the front pocket. I wanted a contrast for the bias tape, so I used the Tiny Floral Toss.
The lining is a combination of The Ditsy Floral and the Medium Floral in pink. All these prints go so well together, they’re meant to be friends!
TAKE A PEEK INSIDE
The reason I love this exact bag, is how open the top is. It could either be open like a basket or closed for travel. Also take note of those big pleated pockets on the inside. And yes, the intent is to use it for knitting projects. I started knitting again, and I NEED to learn to keep my stuff together.
This maker's bag is the way to go because it keeps everything contained.
Learn from my mistakes
When sewing up this project the best tips I can give is read everything first, then measure twice and cut once. I've avoided some facepalm moments by these two simple rules, on just about all of my projects.
When starting a project like this bag, when there are no real pattern pieces, it's so important to make sure you're organized, and that you have enough fabric.
I try not to leave it all to chance.

Sewing is my creative outlet.
I turn my machine on and everything (all my worries) get pushed aside for a little while. I do tend to lose track of time so I set a timer when I know I can't spend the whole day in my sewing space. I also have to admit that I have a very supportive spouse that will let me escape for almost all the time I need.
I hope you enjoyed this project and it inspires you to make something for yourself, or for a loved one.
DID YOU NOTICE MY VINTAGE TURQUOISE SEWING MACHINE?
The brand is a Singer Featherweight from 1948. I bought it off of Market Place on Facebook for $150 in 2019. It didn’t come with the carrying case so it significantly reduced its value and I scooped it up! I got it based on a recommendation of a colleague who teaches quilting. She said they were the best little machines for assembling quilts.
My son said if I were to buy it he would fix it up for me, and make sure it was in working order. He dismantled it, cleaned and sanded the parts that were a little rough and repainted it in my favorite color as a Christmas gift to me. This is what Sebastien does, he’s a certified technician and repairs sewing machines for a living. He especially loves antiques and even more when there’s a motor to play around with. I love that we share in the same passion although he doesn’t sew, he pushes me to use techniques and attachments on my machine I wouldn’t have on my own.
Don’t be a stranger.
