SEWING diy BLOG TOUR | inspiration & Tutorials
Mini Charm Bag | with Daisi Toegel
July 8 2022
Hello everyone and welcome to day 19 of the Blossom and Grow Blog Hop!
I’m Maureen and today I am your maker, but the Mini Charm Bag pattern is by Daisi Toegel from www.flowersew.com and on Instagram @daisitoegel
Daisi is a quilter and pattern designer living in my home state, New Jersey.
She believes that “Every day is a good day to create!”.
She is my kind of person🥰
THE PROJECT
Daisi recently ran a sewing swap using this mini charm bag pattern as the make to swap. I had never participated in a sewing swap before, but I was glad that I did.
It was so much fun.
DAISI’S TIPS
This PDF mini bag pattern includes text instructions and pictures for ease of construction of the project.
It includes detailed information on how to sew the zipper and finish the entire bag without any raw edges.
The PDF pattern also includes a template with information to make the bag using non-directional and directional fabrics.
The fabric requirements are scraps or layer cake squares of fabric (10" squares), as well as zipper and hardware. The pattern level is a confident beginner.
It is an easy and quick weekend project to sew for fun. The pattern is perfect to get creative with the fabrics, only solids, or only printed fabrics, quilted or not quilted, you won't stop making these! You can also play with fussy cutting!!!
This mini bag is PERFECT to gift teachers, co-workers, friends, family, and kids and it can be used for storing things like cash, coins, toys, make-up, medicine, cell phone charger, headphones, keys, etc.

THE SWAP
Here were the rules. You sign up and buy the bag pattern from Daisi.
Then Daisi matches you with a swap partner.
THE MAKE
You make your bag, fill it with sewing trinkets, and mail it to your partner by a specified date.
We had plenty of time to make it, I think it was 3 or 4 weeks.
FABRIC CHOICES
Of course I used my Blossom and Grow fabric. I chose the aqua floral for the outside and the stripe pattern for the inside.
You will need (2) 10” squares plus some scraps, or (2) Fat Eighths, plus batting or stabilizer (I used batting on the bag and stabilizer on the tab)
HARDWARE AND ZIPPER
Hardware for the tab, I used a swivel hook shown below.
9” or larger zipper, preferably nylon so you can cut it down if too big. These are the zippers I ordered Zipit Etsy shop
I love this zipper shop so much, The owner Jennie has a great variety, nice pastels and the price is great. Shipping is very fast and you get a nice handwritten note with your order and she always throws in some fun surprises. I love special touches like that, Amazon never leaves me love notes😜
She has a gorgeous Insta feed you should also check out @kungfucowgirl
SEW EASY TO MAKE
This project is for a confident beginner. It took me a little bit to figure out the zipper, but now I’m a pro.
Daisi’s pattern had lots of diagrams to follow.
Daisi even has a youtube video of the process to help you, for visual learners out there like me😄
GIVING IS BETTER THAN RECEIVING
It was fun to make, but even more fun to pick out items to send to my partner. Of course I included some of my fabric, but I also included some of my favorite sewing thread and some other sewing notions and even homemade tea bags from my garden.
Once you start thinking, it was easy to find things to include in the bag.
receiving was fun too
Ok, it was just as much fun to receive as it was to give. It was like a birthday gift from a dear friend.
Look at all the goodies I got in mine🥰👇🏻
I do hope you sign up for a swap the next time you see one.
And don’t forget to follow Daisi in Instagram @daisitoegel so you are notified the next time she runs one.
I had this great idea!
No need to wait for a swap. Make one or 2 or (20)😜, fill them up and send them to someone.
It doesn’t have to be filled with sewing supplies. You can tailor the contents to the recipient.
Or, run your own swap with your friends. Send them a link to purchase the pattern.
